Are You Brushing Your Child’s Teeth Properly?

Not everybody knows how to brush his or her teeth properly. Often dental professionals see damaged gums that are the result of brushing teeth incorrectly. When it comes to your own child’s dental health, you’ll want to ensure you are brushing their teeth the right way. Read through the following tips to make sure you are doing it correctly.

  • Hold the toothbrush at a 45-degree angle to the child’s teeth.
  • Point the bristles to where the gums and teeth meet.
  • Use gentle circles.
  • Do not scrub.
  • Clean every surface of every tooth.
  • Be gentle.

You can hurt your child’s gums by brushing too hard. Plus, it is a good idea to know a few other dental safety tips. Here are some ways to protect your child’s teeth:

  • Always use infant car seats and seat belts when you drive.
  • Babies and young children will chew on almost anything. Keep them away from hard things that could crack their teeth.
  • Children fall a lot when they are learning to walk and run. Teeth can break, crack, get knocked out or become loose. See your dentist right away if this happens.
